CrystalVue SharpShooter Super Combo

I thought the Kenko Super Combo was good. This one is even better! You can get the CrystalVue SharpShooter from Tom at CKC Power http://www.ckcpower.com/crystalvue.htm He has all the pieces to put this baby together, except the Olympus B-300 1.7x lens. You will have to look for that some place else. The CrystalVue is 8x32 and together with the B-300, it gives you 1156mm lens when hooked up to the Nikon CP-5000. This Super Combo is nice because everything screws together like they where made for each other. Plus it looks a lot better since everything is black. I think it lets in a little more light than the Kenko because it has a little bit more eye relief and it also fits a little bit closer to the Nikon native lens. The whole setup is rock solid when mounted on a tripod.

I was wondering whether you can tell me how well does the Nikon CoolPix 5000 and the Crystalvue Sharpshooter work together? Is there any vignetting? Do you have full zoom range, i.e. do you now have from 28mm to 672mm (35mm equivalent)? How hard is it to focus with the Sharpshooter? How hard is it to use with the CoolPix 5000?

The Nikon 2x and 3x can not be used in front of the CrystalVue because the glass on the small end of the Nikon lenses is smaller than the glass on the end of the CrystalVue. The glass on the small end of the B-300 is actually bigger than the glass on the end of the Crystalvue. So it makes a good match and works perfectly. The B-300 is an excellent lens with real good glass, but I guess not too many Olympus owners bought it so they quit making it. Then the Nikon people started buying them up and now they are real hard to find. Since the lenses on the digital cameras are not removeable, we basically have to use a telescope to get more power. The Crystalvue is basically a small telescope. When not hooked up to the camera, I use the Crystalvue just like a pair of binoculars. Ralph

Incredable work! I have a couple questions if you don't mind. I noticed your never mentioned the TC-E3ED 3X tele converter. Could it be used as well? I don't understand what can be connected to what. For example could the TC-E3ED 3X or the TC-E2 2X tele convertors be used with the Crystalvue 8x32? The concept of connecting the camera end of one lens onto the viewing end of another is foreign to me. I have never heard of it before. With 35mm cameras one can place extenders and doublers between a lens and the camera and place diopters on the filter end but connect two lenses togeather - - ???. Is there something special about the Oly B-300 that allows it to be place on the end of other lenses? Edward
