"Zen Garden"
I have fancifully named this rocky corral, between Sanabria and Las Cuevas, the "Zen Garden".
Juventino Rosas
It's a common practice to "anunciar", or make advertisements on the walls. This one advertises a musical event, starring Juventino Rosas. Political signs predominate during election campaigns, but are rarely removed when the campaign is over.

"Yard Ornaments"
These naturally occuring boulders, of igneous origin, lie outside our gate, across the street.
Boulders and rocks of varying sizes are used to construct the sturdy and picturesque walls that enclose the fields.
The boulder walls are evocative of the Yácatas'; grand ceremonial platforms built by the Purépechas before the arrival of the Spanish. Gradually, stone walls are being replaced by modern enclosures of mortar and fitted stone, and in a few cases, by chain-link fences.

A Year Later: New Roof, Before Painting
In June, 2007, almost a year after we began renting, our house was transformed. Our landlords contracted for a new, traditional tile roof. This took almost a month to construct. Then, in accordance with our wishes, they painted the exterior a lovely blue. We have excellent landlords.
Regional Map
Not of my making, but very much appreciated.
Puntas y Nubes
Yesterday evening at twilight, the mountains toward Cuanajo to the south were enlaced in clouds. The photo was taken past the points of the rejas and power poles of our village.
La Calle Cerrada
The street is not called a "cerrada" for no reason. It effectively ends in ruts and boulders near the end of our wall.
Update: Over the last year, many tons of gravel and a lot of grading have extended our street upwards of 3/4 mile further. Still, the navigable parts eventually turn into cow trails, which emerge farther along on the highway above the Yácatas of Tzintzuntzan.
El Monstruo Verde
The large, vinous plant to the right of the gate is a chayote. One month after this picture was taken, the plant had grown to the extent that it had to be cut back. We expect a large crop of large chayotes.
UPDATE: It is now mid-November, and the chapulines in their mating frenzy have consumed much of the Monstruo. However, a cold period has reduced their activity, (or else they have spent their ardor) and the Monstruo will undoubtedly survive the winter.

My first panoramic shot; please forgive the flaws!
This is from the hill above the houses.
Trastero or china cabinet in original house
This is the cabinet we bought, but won't arrive in our house until later this week. (This scene was shot in the former house of the seller.)

Rainbow Over Distant Mountains
The other evening, two rainbows lifted the gloomy mood brought by impending rain clouds. This photo was heavily edited in PSE.
