Arenas de Cabrales—Al Pie de Los Picos

Arenas de Cabrales is a small town in eastern Asturias, at the foot of the Picos de Europa. It serves as the center for tourism in the area, yet has retained its rural charms. Its notable for (besides its scenic location) the production of the pungent blue cheese, Queso de Cabrales and as the base for hiking trips in the spectacular Picos.
After our six hours on the Río Cares trail, we welcomed a supper at the Restaurante Santelmo in Arenas.
Here's Susie's notes on our supper:
Restaurant Santelmo, located at the main intersection in the center of Arenas.
Excellent food - cider, warm salad of shrimp, wild mushrooms, lettuce predressed and good. red wine, tapa of fabada - long large white beans from this area (we bought a big sack for 9€ and hauled it the rest of the way and home!) - with chorizo and fatback and piece of morcilla sausage. Rice pudding with brulee crust and dash of cinnamon - excellent. Cheese - flan de queso excellent also.

(Unfortunately, I don't have a photo of that meal, but here's a pic of another at the Sidrría Obayú nearby.)
