I am a Londoner on the beautiful island of Okinawa. Mother, Coordinator, Rebel, oh, and of course, Photographer!
I am a self taught photographer. I started off with a Nikon FM back in the days when you stuck a roll of 24 ilford B&W film in the camera, shot on manual mode and made sure you pretty much got it right in the camera. Then I would end up in our little cupboard printing in the darkroom.
I have had a couple of small gallery shows in London. I also sometimes shot as a freelance photographer for hiphop magazines, like The Source and Rap Pages, in NYC.
My influence for photography comes mainly from my Dad who was and still is a hobby photographer. He has an excellent eye and with the right financial backing would and should have been famous (seriously Dad!).
I left serious photography for a few years as I worked and had a couple of children. I got my first digital DSLR in early 2006 (Thanks Albert). I was working FT for a couple of years so it began to collect dust, but it is back out and able and willing!
My goal is to capture as much of Okinawa as possible; its' people and its' scenery. I also want others to be captured here, whether it is a maternity shoot, model, newborn. I love travel and portrait photography, so I am definitely in the right place.
Check out my Portfolio gallery to get an idea of my style. My style (for people photos) is urban as opposed to suburban, gritty as opposed to smooth, modern as opposed to traditional. I like to capture personality whether the background is graffiti or the beach. I prefer to get my photos how I want them right as I take the photo. I like to rely on my 'eye' for photography first and foremost...the rest will (usually) follow, I don't do a lot of post editing, just the minimum. I hope you enjoy my photos. Please check out my new website at http://www.pamelaoliveras.com. You can also find my blog at http://www.ukreal1.blogspot.com
If you like what I do, please contact me, I am available for shoots most days.
