Sometimes it sucks to be a cow!

Haliaeetus leucocephalus
I was tracking this eagle
as it swooped down from its
nest. Now sure why but it
decided to rake its talons
across the head of this cow.
You never know what you're
gonna see!

Perhaps the eagle was tired of surf and wanted a little turf for a change...

This series is amazing Jack! What an unusual behavior and as always, your captures are superb. Please keep them coming. Robyn

Maybe it was thinking about having filet mignon!
Great shot!

Could have been a territory response, makes as much sense as anything else, but those cows are there every day and I've never seen the eagles pay one bit of attention to them before.

It was a "territory response" and the eagle was defending their space. The cow was not a threat but the eagle did not know that.
