The Thinker |
Front Sign |
Rear LawnMy niece, Emily, took this shot on our visit here, 26 December 2008. |
The EntranceWhat a cool place. The way they use light is incredible. |
Gift StoreEverybody needs a gift store. |
More LightThis entrance hall was so cool. I couldn't stop taking pictures. |
|
Lion-EskeThis was an interesting piece. The sign read it was a scupture made by folks who didn't have a clear idea of what a lion actually looked like. Therefore they gave it features of a horse and even humans, as well. |
LoversThis one was way cool. To think of the age of these scuptures, is nothing short of awesome. |
BarefootI'm not really an art guy. Without reading the signs in front of each of these paintings, I couldn't really tell you what they were of. However, I very much enjoy the colors used, the bright, sharpness of how they look. Very cool. |
The FamI'm not much of a religious dude either, being a dedicated agnostic. Again however, the colors of this painting were so vivid. My guess is this is, Jesus, Mary & Joseph. Your guess is as good as mine as to whom the elder gentleman would be. |
John, The BaptistOr so I think I rememebr reading from the sign in front of this painting. |
More ReligionNo doubt. But again, the colors were so vivid, as if it had been painted last week. The skull was nice. Christian, indeed; fear, guilt ... all the good stuff. |
Art ZimmerA room filled with art. Very cool. |
Emily-RoseMy niece admiring an object. |
Shuttle CocksThese are on the rear lawn of the museum. They're so bloody useless, and thankfully, my niece sees that as well. What a waste of cash. |
The Main HallNote the Christmas tree on the end. What would the Muslims think? Discriminatory? I'm sure that's their argument. |
The ThinkerAgain, with the man of thought. That's my niece on the steps. Yes, I took a lot of pictures of her. I don't see her very often and she's adorable. |
MarbleI guess I should have written down what all the statues were ... but I didn't. I simply posted pictures of the ones I enjoyed. This one was beautiful. |
The PairI liked the painting, sure. Again, with the colors and the detail. But I also took this because of the chest displayed. It was a 17th century piece of work and it was flawless. Just awesome. |
Fine ChinaTea pots and such. Very interesting. |
The JoustThis pair of Medieval armour has been part of the Nelson for at least twenty years. I love this stuff. |
Stained GlassThey had a whole wall of these. |
Medieval TombstonesThese are very cool. |
Marble BustI can't remember exactly who these folks were, but I thought they were magnificent. These sculptures are hundreds of years old, and in some cases, older. |
Marble ChestWonderfully detailed. |
Sculpture RoomThe room was decorated with six hundred year old stained glad windows as well. |
Marble CarvingsNotice the dude holding the skull. Hmm. |
I'm Not HappyThis guy is angry about something. Must be Roman. They're always pissed about something. probably couldn't find anyone to crucify that day. |
Minnie WeenieHe's angry about rhe size of his Willie. No penis pumps or viagra, so I guess he'll have to simply, deal with it. |
Let's Shake On ItA stone relief. Plop Plop, Fizz Fizz, oh what a relief it is. |
The Egyptian RoomThis room was really cool. |
PerfectionLook at this. This is simply, awesome and I realize that word is far over utilized. Look at the lines, and all of it came from stone. |
Painted WoodAt least that's what the sign read. I can't imagien wood lasting this long, but perhaps, if it were treated. |
I Command TheeI couldn't quite figure out if this was a real piece or an example of modern art. All I did know was that it was ugly. Ugly enough to post. |
Yeah, I'm OLD3000 year old sculpture. Wow. Plus, this cat is wearing a dress. |
Back To Normalpaintings and chests of drawers; ah something I can sink my teeth into. |
MonetClaude Monet. I generally don't go in for watercolors, but Monet is okay ... in small doses. I get tired of having to work to find the art in his paintings, standing in Cleveland before I can make anything out. |
Huh?This was yet another axample of ambiguity. I was unsure as to whetehr or not this was an example of modern art, or if someone was drunk when they set it up? A chair ... under a lamp? HUH? |
More Real ArtI dig the paintings. |
Fine ChinaMore china pieces. The plate to this set was really neat. |
Asian HairlessAnd armless. |
YogurtOr yoga, depending upon your sense of humor. I can't figure why the Asians always cut off the arms. |
Emily-RoseEmmy taking a picture of her uncle ... taking a picture. She lived in China for five years and so the Asian exhibits were of particular interest to her. |
The Asian Room |
Budda |
Cheese Anyone?I'll do the slicing, thank you. |
KamonoThis was much mor eblue than the picture shows. |
OuchThat looks like it hurts. |
Asian RoomLeaving the Asian room. |
Again, No ArmsWhy, why, why? Seems like such a waste. Then again, in an attack, they'd find it very hard to fight back huh? |
Very SeriousThis dude meant business. Just look at him. |
MMMMMMMOh, excuse me. I just wanted to hum along with Mr. B there. |
Captain HappyOh no, he's not. |
Boobies, I See BoobiesYeah right, nobody remembers Al Bundy? This was the last of the real exhibits. From here on out it was modern art and nonsense. |
StaircaseFrom the ground floor to the second floor. Very cool marble staircase. |
What The Hell?Okay, somebody please explain this one to me. How is this art? A guy sticks a chair under a painting and "that's" the exhibit? |
DelMonteI don't like modern art, as you may have guessed. However, as stated previous, I am a huge fan of brilliant color and this piece is an excellent example. |
BierThis piece was so very sharp, it reminded me of college, and the rubbish pile out behind the kitchen. |
Security GuardThis wax figure has been an exhibit at the Nelson since before I was in highschool. He has scared, and scarred more people. My wife thinks he's the creepiest little dude. |
Phallic?Man, I think so, but then again, it could just be me. |
California DreaminThis was the stupidest exhibit. After looking at it for a short time, it reminded me of when I lived in California and there'd be the occasional earthquake. |
Dot To DotThis is one of the very few modern pieces I enjoy. Again, this painting has been there for ever. If you look at it from say two feet away, all you see are white dots. However, the farther you step back from the painting, the more the actual landscape appears. Kinda cool. |
I've No Ideawhy this is art. None. It's ugly and completely functionless. |
Ah, YesThe black canvas painting. "It says so much". Jesus I can't for the life of me figure this crap out. |
Hallway Of LightOn our way out the door, we'd found we'd returned to the entrance area. Again, the light was what grabbed my attention. |
CafeteriaThese are real folks, enjoying some snacks. Very strange. |
Waiting RoomThis was a large waiting area, with no art hanging anywhere. Still, what a cool room. |
Emily-RoseMy niece looking at a water display. Very cool. |
ExitMaking our way out towards the parking lot. |
GatheringAgain, just some folks milling around in a snack area. |
AusgangThese doors took us to the parking lot and our car. The Nelson is a wonderful museum and anyone within driving distance should make it a destination. |
