It's colder up here, the snow is harder, the ice closer to the surface, so we put our crampons on at about 12,000 ft. (~3660 m.) This photo is probably at about 12,500 (~3810 m.). The headwall up to the ridge in the background is the crux of the climb. We were doing a lot of traversing, and a little front-pointing usually completely out of breath, and constantly complaining.
