Almost like she knew where beauty would take her and the likely privelege she would enjoy.

I have never seen anything quite like it before.

Wonderful catch. I would crop the image a bit more and cut off half of the space above her head and an inch from the bottom of the image. In this way you'll get a more rectangular picture close to the 3 : 4 ideal cut. Try it out and see the difference in impact.
Another things is that the background of your website here is pitch black so in some spots it's hard to see where the black parts of the picture end and the background starts, so the image again loses power. A lovely shot of a lovely little girl, but, I think that if you cropped the right side up to the hair, you would have a stronger, and, in my opinion, a more balanced picture, and maybe introduce catchlights in the eyes
