The Pallava's were quite busy here in Mamallapuram around the 9th century and the remarkable thing is that they didn't cut stones that much to build their temples but they worked on available rock formations at the spot to sketch their architectural ideas which resulted here in the final famous Rock Relief, just the other side of this rock formation but you can find already the first sketches of this same relief on this same rock.
Other traces of this most particular architectural stone-carving are the Five-Rathas and the Tiger Cave carved out of one rock at the spot.
As you can see here, a path was laid to walk around peacefully between sun and shades in these premises along all the remaining traces of their busy stone-carvings, walking through history. Not surprising to see here lots of young loving copples too.
