Next generation of fishermen ?

Mamallapuram

Young boys playing early morning 6:03 o'clock on Mamalla beach, will they become fishermen too ?
Most likely, due to the social structure and traditions of their society.

Some characteristics of Tamil social culture:

- friendship is for life : Indeed friends from young, they stay mostly friends all their life through
well and woe, loyalty is a high Tamil value.

- cast-system maintained by the common people : In cities where lots of young people go to
university nowadays, the cast-system and arranged marriages are slowly put aside. On the contrary,
common people maintain the cast-system in a very traditional way up to the smallest details.

- fishermen still belong to one of the lowest casts : A Tamil man explained the reason of the line
on a loungi near to the border below. He said, fishermen are at the border down of the loungi and
are not supposed to trespass the line, they have to stay at the sea. Lucky some fishermen children
are supported by foreigners in the hope to improve their life but that brings us to next issue.

- never give money to common poor people : They simply never learned to manage their finances
properly, they don't trust saving on a bank, they spend all in one day, living by the day. If you
feel to help, try to see their need, like giving school money straight to the instances but never
money, a waste drop into the sea and it creates tremendous jealousy among them.
