Look what we found in a cotton factory in Sellur between all the noise of the looms and the the spinning machines, a cute little girl lying in a cotton hammock, trying to sleep within all the noise here.
Her mother, working here, is allowed to take her youngest along if the baby is still too young and has to fed regularly. When they get older they stay mostly in the family at home with grandma and later they go to school.
Life here at Sellur, a very poor area, must go on and families have to provide an income to survive, a reason that there are so many cotton factories here at Sellur, the labor cost of women is still very low.
one more in the series of
The little Gods of Tamil Nadu.
One more thought on the side of children, it takes a whole village to raise a child and that is still very true in India, everybody of a village feels responsible to look after the children, the little Gods, a value that we seem to have lost in the West and that causes so much street criminality of younger peple, where adults mind only their own business, not that of children of someone else, you could almost say that children are not wanted anymore by the society in the West, isn't that a form of poverty too ?
Enjoy
