The cotton textile industry ranks on the first place in Tamil Nadu in the unorganized or unregistered manufacturing employment (21%) followed by wood and beverages+tobacco (each 10%). On the unorganized level Tamil Nadu share in all India on textiles is 27%.
Handloom and textiles have a lot of government subsidies that can't be sustained in the future. Laborers have to be retrained to focus on fashion clothing and more export in order to survive.
