Built across the majestic River Vaigai, passing Madurai, near Andipatti, the dam with a height of 111 feet can store 71 feet of water. This dam was opened on January 21, 1959.

It is 70km from Madurai on the way to Thekkadi. It is a good picnic spot. The Dam is beautifully illuminated on every sunday evening. All kinds of exotic flowers and plants are filled by man made gardens in front of the Dam. Natural beauty of the hills border the lake, the other side.
