There is no Kodaikanal without a view on the immense lake.
Kodaikanal Lake is a magnificent man-made lake, which spreads out in a star shape over sixty acres is a main attraction as it is set among the greenery. The boat club here offers several pleasure and racing trips.
Kodaikanal generally receives about 2,000 millimetres of rainfall annually but now it has gone down to 1,000. This has resulted in a drought-like situation. One of the biggest dangers of the hill resorts in this region has been the practice of planting only eucalyptus trees, which suck out huge amounts of water from the land. The lake was 60 feet deep but due to excessive soil erosion and destruction of natural vegetation, the depth now is just 10 to 12 feet.
