The trident of Shiva

Devaneri

Tiger Cave surroundings, 5 km from Mahabalipuram, a perfect picnic place for school-journeys or meeting place for young lovers in the shade of some high palm trees. Here the local small Shiva temple where the young priest is dressing up the temple as a preparation for Poongal festival on the 15-01.

Shiva often holds a trident, which represents the Hindu trinity of Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu. It is also said to represent the threefold qualities of nature: creation, preservation and destruction, although preservation is usually attributed to Vishnu.
