The Desolation Wilderness is a small wilderness area (approximately 100 square miles) that is located directly to the west of Lake Tahoe California. The landscape is composed of mostly glacier carved granite, with areas of sparse forest in the lower elevations. Elevation in the area averages approximately 9,000 feet. Amazingly, there are over 100 lakes and lakelets in Desolation Wilderness, making it a great destination for both backpacking and fishing.
