C-23 - Music to My Eyes - 1st - Sisters are Doin' it for Themselves by Flick Merauld

Ann Summers window display for the Rampant Rabbit

Sisters are Doin' it for Themselves/Eurythmics & Aretha Franklin

Now there was a time when they used to say
That behind every - "great man."
There had to be a - "great woman."
But in these times of change you know
That it's no longer true.
So we're comin' out of the kitchen
'Cause there's somethin' we forgot to say to you (we say)

Sisters are doin' it for themselves.
Standin' on their own two feet.
And ringin' on their own bells.
Sisters are doin' it for themselves.

Now this is a song to celebrate
The conscious liberation of the female state!
Mothers - daughters and their daughters too.
Woman to woman
We're singin' with you.
The "inferior sex" got a new exterior
We got doctors, lawyers, politicians too.
Everybody - take a look around.
Can you see - can you see - can you see
There's a woman right next to you.

Sisters are doin' it for themselves.
Standin' on their own two feet.
And ringin' on their own bells.
Sisters are doin' it for themselves.

Now we ain't makin' stories
And we ain't layin' plans
'Cause a man still loves a woman
And a woman still loves a man
(Just a same though)

Hi Flick,
This is a stunning image portraying the song so aptly. Well done I think it is sheer excellence! Kate

Flick, I think it takes 2 to have a dialog. It seems you are always opem to dialog. If you were not the person who you are I probably would have passed the picture by. Thanks for being you - brent.

There are, of course, other levels on which the image can be rad. I meant it to be multi-layered.

Bless you Brent, I think it's great that you can be old fashioned. Good for you for being willing to open to new ways of seeing.
You're a nice guy :-)
Flick.

Flick, I took a look and along with your comments expanded my thinking. As a man with 4 brothers and 4 daughters I have been forced to often push my thinking far beyond where it is comfortable :-) Thanks for the expansion it helped. brent

It's photography as social commentary without drawing conclusions or judging.
Read the sub title, then google ramapant rabbit (sorry, it will probably offend your sensibilities). It's very clever advertising and implies man's evolution into being obsolete for women in a sexual context.
I thought it made an interesting statement, in keeping with the song in one way, yet is a parody in another way.
Flick.

I guess I don't quite get the symbolism in the picture. From a conservative, prudish guy the costume of the manequin is that of a dominmatrix. Is this correct, or is my culture perspective just different than yours? For me then the symbolism would suggest that the evolution of man is into sexual slavery - which I think is what the song is standing up against. If that is the case then I get it. - brent

darn it Flick! - two arrows found their mark here. first this miraculous image - talk about telling a story! - this image goes to many volumes; then, we have the song. Annie Lennox is my goddess of vocalists, and took over the mantle from Marianne Faithfull some time back. Superb!

i'll be back. thanks heaps. adrian
