The Siskin L 11-12,5cm (4.3-4.9") breeds in needleleaf and mixed woodland, specially in higher stemmed needleleaf woods. Is attracted by birch and alder trees, which seeds make up for the main part of the natural food. Nesting high up in needleleaf trees. The Siskin is a small and jaunty bird with a pretty small head and short tail. It is recognised by the dark wing with striking yellow bar, and the yellow tail sides at the base and heavy striped flanks. The male has a black crown and bib. The eyebrow, breast and rump is non-striped green-yellow. The female has a dark striped green-grey crown. The breast and rump is weak striped light green-yellow. |
