This gallery-in-the-making will show photos from the period, 1988 to 1991, that Jacqueline and I spent in Mali working for the Dutch development organisation SNY.
Alas, the original negatives and slides have taken a severe hit from the heat and humidity of all these tropical years and so I have had to make do wit lower-quality scans of the prints that survive from that period.
Of the countries in Africa that I've worked in, Mali is for me the one where the people are the most authentically in touch with their culture, their values and their identity. Proud but never arrogant! And those colours/clothes! Eat you heart out, Malawians!
