Rough-legged Hawks - winter 2007-2008

This winter, there has been a push of Rough-legged Hawks into northern Mississippi that is unprecedented. Five of these fine birds have been seen at one location in Tunica Co, three immature birds, 1 dark morph adult male and 1 adult light morph. The 3 immature birds have taken up territories while the dark morph has been seen only sporadically. The light morph male Rough-leg and an immature Ferruginous that were seen also at this site, by Gene Knight, Mike Todd and myself have not been relocated.
Photos of the tragic ending for one of these great birds have been added. Shot 2-17-08

I, too, am terribly saddened to hear about the loss of this bird. So tragic to have been killed at the hands of mankind.

Too bad that some idiot with a gun had to end the life of this bird.
