Here is John Laux's story: We were out sampling invertebrates on
the mudflat and all of a sudden a group of about 30 ring-billed gulls started
feeding in a creek channel about 30 yards from us. We watched them for a bit
and then continued with sampling. A few minutes later we looked over and saw
that all the gulls had flown off except for one which was in the water. It
appeared to be struggling and we took a closer look and a hawk had came in and
drilled the gull and was still holding onto him in the water!! I wish I had
my camera for that part but I had to run to the truck to get it and when I got
back, the hawk had drug the gull up on to the bank.
