Here is a poor photo and the only photo I was able to get of Tennessee's first Inca Dove; it was taken May 5, 2005. I had found the bird the previous morning as it flew past my truck. I relocated the bird again about an hour later feeding at the edge of a gravel parking lot. The bird flew behind some locked gates.
The next morning while looking for the bird, I stopped to take photos of a Killdeer nesting on the gravel road on the levee in Ensley Bottoms, Shelby Co, TN. I noticed a bird down the road and realized it was the Inca Dove. I made this quick and distant photo but when I turned the truck for a better angle, the bird again flew down the levee and passed behind the locked gate. Way down the levee there is a large steel plant that is closed with lots of great places to hide a small dove.
