The distance and lighting as the adult Little Gull came to roost, prevented our getting any photos of one of the most beautiful gulls that infrequently visits Tennessee. Even in this photo you get a feeling of how small this gull is, listed as only 11 inches long.
The above photo of an adult Little Gull, that I was fortunate enough to find on the Tennessee River in in Alabama, shows the rounded wings, the striking charcoal coloration of the underwing that is edged in white and pale gray upper surfaces.
The more rounded wings of the adult, compared to the pointed wings of the immature, gives the adult an even more distinctive, lighter flight pattern.
