Here is another Surf Scoter seen sleeping at TVA this weekend. Note the width of the light color behind the eye and broken facial pattern with a darkening just under the eye and compare this to the sleeping Black Scoter. Another feature that I am seeing is the wing tip separating from the body, I don't know how consistent this is where you see a lot of scoters but it has been a regular feature seen on Surf Scoters this year.
