On this male Western we go the other way with a VERY short bill. Even though the bill is probably shorter than a female Semipalmated it is still structurally different. In Semipalmated the bill is overall heavier and tapers evenly from its base to a bubular tip. On this very short billed Western the bill tapers quickly from the base and toward the tip the taper straightens out and there will be a slight droop at that area with an elongated only slightly wider tip.
