We heard the bird coming even before the shorebirds were aware of its approach. The ominous sound as Sutton once wrote "demanded attention." The bird passed right by us and scattered the shorebirds, it made two more passes within 40 feet of us and finally I got my camera up as it passed no more than 25 feet above our heads.
