These birds have expanded into our area from their western haunts, mostly by leap frogging from power station to power station. They have a propensity for nesting among the net work of struts and trusses on the towers and switch gear and using the open grassy areas found around such installations. Even at a distance the Western's small head and different posture is a clue to look closer. I spotted this bird before I even got stopped as it perched on one of the distant over head lines.
