Thayer's Gull - Savannah Bottoms

This bird was the darker of the two Thayer's found in Hardin, Co. The pattern was only slightly courser than the light individual seen at Pickwick Dam. In this photo you can see the even coloration, small all black bill with an even curve to the culmen. The dark smudge at the eye varied in darkness as to which way the head was turned. In flight and preening the bird exhibited silver under-wings and the upper-wings and body were evenly colored with no apparent window at the base of the primaries. The dark outer web and light inner web of the primaries and secondaries could be seen when the bird preened.

other sizes: small medium original auto
