Most of the images here are of a supercell storm that formed southeast of Watonga, OK and tracked slowly southeastward. The structure was some of the best I have ever seen in the month of August in Oklahoma.
Amazing pictures, they capture the first portion of the amazing experience of watching the lightening as I drove on 40 through Oklahoma on Monday. However, about an hour after enjoying it, I hit an incredible point in the storm, where it appeared that the wind was shearing sideways, picking up the orange construction barrels. There were about four of us in this part of the storm, traveling through, the trailer truck in front and two cars behind me all pulled over as traveling forward was impossible, as visibility was limited to wiggly looking circles of light from the tail lights of the trailer two car lengths ahead. We sat through waves of extreme wind and rain, it could have be hail, but it was coming down so fast that I couldn't differentiate the sounds. In fact, I noticed when the the car behind me lost head lights for a minute, and felt a bump. I wasn't sure if the person's car hit me, or if it was the incredible wind, or another of the sideways flying orange construction barrels... What an experience! Sure enough, it was the car. I was driving from Louisiana through Oklahoma, with my new car, which I had bought that morning. So, I guess I have a "supercell" driven scratch on the bumper now, with a memory of a storm that reminded me that we humans are small compared to the power of nature. Thanks for covering this!

Excellent pictures as always Dave. Number 10 almost raises the hair on the back of my neck, must have been no more than 400 meters from that bolt, and then there was the closer one behind us. It was great seeing you and Mary on what was a memorable chase for August.
