The Chisholm Trail Coalition teamed up with The Enid Cemetery on Oct. 15, 2011 for the first Tombstone Tales. Horse-drawn wagons took visitors through the cemetery after dark in groups. The wagons stopped at selected tombstones where actors told the tale of the buried person's life. The Chisholm Trail Coalition asked the public for interesting, unusual and historically significant stories of people buried at the Enid Cemetery. Chisholm Trail Coalition was founded five years ago with the mission of "preserving the history of the Chisholm Trail as well as the history of downtown Enid." The group hosts walking history tours of downtown Enid the third Saturday of each month, giving visitors and locals a look into the city's past. They try to make the tours both entertaining and educational by giving interesting stories and facts about the different landmarks downtown. Some people who have lived here their entire lives say "I didn't know half of this". The Coalition is always looking for new stories to add to the walking tours. These tours are appropriate for all ages and a family event as was the Tombstone Tales. These are the photos I took the night of the Tombstone Tales. Not anything like a nice ride through a cemetery at night, it was lots of fun for all. As two of my photos show the actors and visitors may not have been the only thing in the cemetery that night.
