My friend Gregg Stone is a member of the Orange County Center for Contemporary Arts asked me to take photos of the show "The Great Wall of Chinga", he and Barbara Thompson curated. Some of the pictures have the artist standing next to their work. I have more pictures that I will add tonight along with the names of the artist. I also, crop some of the photos to show closeups. Some of these painting are so details that you can almost disect them into other paintings. If I missed anyones name next to their painted please send me an email or leave a comment.
The US Mexico border separates to types of Latin art: on the US side the work is created by Chicanos, Americans of Mexican heritage, much of the art work was born out of protest and racial prejudice often incorporating images from ancient warriors of Mexico.
The Mexican artists on the border are living on the outskirts of old Mexico, and far from their cultural capital of Mexico City, in this area art work can be influenced by a transient society on its way to work in America, coupled by all the vices border cities are known for.
OCCCA brings you 13 artists from each side of the border as well as 4 sculptors, separated by an almost impenetrable barrier of the US border. Come and see how their artwork is similar and how it is different.
