I guess this is more or less an expirement on painting on black velvet. The first thing I did was buy some black velvet fabric for $10 a yard. Then I cut and tacked it to 16x20 stretcher bars. The next thing I did was trace parts of the photo on to the black velvet using waxfree tracing paper that is used for sewing. From what I've learned off the Internet, you are suppose to use oil paint. But, I've never used Oil, so what I did was purchase a Medium that you mix with Acrylics to make it thick like Oil and it is also used for painting on fabric. I uses a lot of paint, because for some reason, it kinda evaporates on the velvet. So you have to place layers and layers of paint. But I think it is turning out ok.
This painting is based on a photo I took of guy wearing a Raider Jersey. I saw him walking across the street and I stopped him to ask him if I could take a picture of his tattoos. This painting is going to be included in a Black Velvet Art Show in Tijuana, Mexico at the Instituto Cultural de Baja California (ICBC) on July 8th, 2006.
