德壽宮 덕수궁 Deoksugung
Deoksugung Palace was originally built as a residence for Prince Wolsandaegun, the elder brother of King Seongjong. In 1593, King Seonjo returned to Seoul after the Japanese invasion of 1592 and established a temporary residence here. Haengung, as it was called, was then renamed Gyeongungung by the next ruler, Gwanghaegun.
After King Injo held a coronation ceremony in Jeukjodong Hall and moved to Changdeokgung. Deoksugung remained vacant for about 200 years.
This palace was known as Deoksugung since 1907. Deoksugung's Seokjojoen was constructed in 1909 and has been used as a part of the Royal Museum since 1992.
