I was born and raised at 1821 Race Street in 1950 and remember well being held by the hand of my mother while she made her purchases at the Findley Market. A lot has changed since then but the memories are very sweet indeed, especially at Christmas time. There was a Cohen Shoe Store on the corner and I can still smell the evergreens (in my mind) that were sold on the corner. The men selling them always had a barrel burning to keep their hands warm and Christmas carols were always playing, especially Silver Bells and to this day, that is my favorite song and always takes me back to the Farmers Market! Race Street has changed a lot and i see pictures of all the upgrades at the Farmers Market but I will always remember the way it was back in the 50's and early 60's before we finally moved. I live in Georgia now but The "market" will always be with me!
