To help celebrate Porsche’s 70th anniversary, Porsche of Towson provided PCA members breakfast from the Iron Rooster restaurant in Hunt Valley, after which PCA Chesapeake mounted a 50-minute scenic drive to the dealership. A total of 139 PCA members and guests in 85 Porsches joined the tour on June 9. The 28-mile route took us through Cockeysville, Sparks, Glencoe, Monkton, Jacksonville, Lutherville-Timonium and Towson, all in northern Baltimore County.

Organizing such a huge undertaking required the invaluable assistance of several PCA volunteers. Doug and Francesca E, as well as Rich and Kris T, collected the participants’ signatures for the PCA waiver forms. David D, Steve W, Larry R and Steve G helped organize, launch and lead the cars. Will Williams, founder and administrator of the Hunt Valley Horsepower Cars & Coffee, kindly reserved parking spaces for our cars and arranged the traffic assistance of the Baltimore County Police. Deploying 9 patrol cars, the officers of Precinct 7 were outstanding. They escorted our caravan of Porsches, closed several intersections and blocked other traffic on York Road until we reached our route’s back roads. Our thanks go to all of them.

Our special thanks particularly go to Steve Postol, Porsche of Towson’s general manager, and Lori Connolly, Priority 1 Automotive Group’s marketing director, as well as to Jim E, Randy R and Janet J of PCA Chesapeake’s Tech Committee. About 200 PCA members and PoT customers enjoyed the display of significant Porsches and the German lunch they provided at the dealership. Last but not least, our thanks also go to the car owners and collectors who volunteered to display their significant Porsches on the showroom floor and in the parking area. Alas, only a few of those dozens of significant cars are featured here.

The dealership's complimentary lunch consisted of bratwurst stewed with sauerkraut, chicken schnitzel, beer braised brisket, German potato salad and deviled eggs, accompanied by these side dishes: caramelized onion pretzel rolls with caraway salt sauerkraut, German cabbage, house-made mustards, Dijon strawberry mustard, onion-bacon jam and house pickles.

Very busy as the driving tour organizer and primary lead driver, I was not able to take as many photos as I wanted, and none whatsoever of the tour itself. And when we reached Porsche of Towson, I ended up spending more of my time chatting with PCA friends than taking pictures -- until after the party was over.
