2008 Monterey Historic Automobile Races -- Can-Am Racing ... D300

I attended the three-day 2008 Monterey Historic Automobile Races at the Laguna Seca Raceway in California on its second day, Aug. 16, Saturday. I divided my time between the paddock and the racetrack. As a result, I saw only the last two of the eight races held that day. The first involved historic Can-Am cars (1966-1974, Group 7A), which are featured in this gallery. In the early 1970s, car No. 5 was driven by Denny Hulme and car No. 29 by Vic Elford. In the late 1960s, car No. 48 was driven by Dan Gurney and car No. 52 by Peter Revson. I took all the photos with a handheld Nikon D300 and a Nikkor 18-200mm VR zoom lens.

The next day, Aug. 17, I went to the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance -- the subject of a separate gallery here. Next time, I intend to spend two days at the historic auto races before attending the concours. That way, I'll be able to see and photograph more races and still have plenty of time for the paddock.
