Hagley Car Show -- Sept. 20, 2009, Wilmington, Delaware

In 2009, the Hagley Car Show was held on Sept. 20. This annual event in Wilmington, Delaware, regularly features more than 500 vintage automobiles owned by private collectors. Its show field is among the most beautiful in the country, situated as it is in the middle of a 235-acre estate that has the distinction of being the birthplace of the DuPont Company, as well as of being the ancestral home of the DuPont family. My personal awards for "best of show - American" and "best of show - foreign" go to two red cars -- a 1957 Ford Thunderbird and a 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk III. These two cars' condition appeared to be good enough for them to gain acceptance in a concours d'elegance, along with several of the show's brass era automobiles (pre-1916) and a white 1957 Thunderbird.

I shot the photos in this gallery with my handheld Nikon D300 and Nikkor 18-200mm VR zoom. All are as-is, straight from the camera, with no post-processing applied -- except for two that are marked PP in their captions. However, I resized the pictures for online viewing. ...
