Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion -- Trans-Am Race (over 2000cc), August 2010

The 2010 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion was held Aug. 12 through 15 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. I watched eight of the 10 races that ran on Aug. 14 but had to miss the ones held the next day because I attended the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.

Of the races I saw, I found the Trans-Am race -- for cars with engines bigger than 2000cc -- the most exciting for the eyes and ears. The thunderous sound of American V8s set up for racing is hard to beat. It's too bad my Trans-Am photos here are not accompanied by the roar of those engines. A total of 43 cars were entered, but only 29 managed to take part in the race (Group 7A).

This gallery is the third of 10 in my 2010 series on the Motorsports Reunion, formerly called the Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races.

I shot the photos in this gallery with a handheld Nikon D300 and a Nikkor 18-200mm VR zoom. All are as-is, straight from the camera, with no post-processing except for cropping, as well as the slight brightening of just one image (marked BR in its caption). All have been resized for online viewing.
