1962 Ferrari 250 GTO at Simeone Automotive Museum -- Dec. 2012 and March 2013

The 39 Ferrari GT0s built in the 1960s may not be the rarest cars in the world but they are arguably the most sought after, judging from the prices being paid for them on the rare occasions they are offered for sale. Two private transactions in 2012 reportedly brought in more than $30 million each, with the more recent one reaching a heady $35 million. It has been said that no other automobile has changed hands for more money than this, thereby giving the Ferrari 250 GTO the distinction of being the most valuable car in the world. In fact, a Ferrari expert said in 2013 that one of his clients turned down a $40 million offer for his GTO. Another owner did accept a $52 million offer for his GTO in a private sale during the second half of 2013.

In mid-November and early December 2012, and then in March 2013, I had the pleasure of photographing the second of 39 GTOs at the Simeone Automotive Museum, where it is on loan. I am pleased to share here some of the pictures that I took of that GTO, as well as of three other Ferraris and a Maserati that were next to it. Except for the 250 LM, all belong to Fred Simeone. To view Simeone's other racing cars on display at the museum in Philadelphia, click on this link to one of my other galleries here: https://pbase.com/noyphoto/simeonemuseum20080712 . And for more information, visit the museum's Web site at http://www.simeonemuseum.org .

I took the photos in this gallery with a handheld Nikon D300 and a Nikkor 18-200mm VR zoom, as well as a handheld Nikon Coolpix P7100. All have been resized for online viewing.
