The mighty Twelve Apostles are world-recognised icons of the Great Ocean Road. These giant rock stacks soar from the swirling waters of the Southern Ocean and are a central feature of the spectacular Port Campbell National Park, approximately 4 hours from Melbourne.
The dramatic and imposing limestone cliffs that are the backdrop to the Apostles tower up to 70 metres, while the tallest of the rock stacks is around 45 metres high.
There are just 8 "apostles" left. On July 3rd, 2005 a 50 metre limestone pillar crumbled into the water. Its remnants are clearly seen in the first and the last images of this gallery.
A very beautiful gallery. They recall my memories to the Great Ocean Road a decade ago. As far as I know, one of the apostles collapsed recently. Very sad !
