Dunnideer

At the top of the hill,
there are the remains of Iron Age fortifications,
built around 1000 BC.
The castle of Dunnideer was built c.1260.

(Thanks, Zak for pointing out that the date on my camera has been a day out since I changed the batteries!)

It's like, something blew a chunk out of the castle wall and it landed intact several yards away. Great shot(no pun intended).

When they built something it was made to last...amazing image with that heavy sky beyond.

aha, I'm a sucker for an "ancient ruin" shot. :) Love the drama of this and the moody clouds!

This is great. It looks like a giant standing there with no top to his body, only waist down. The brick work is exquisite even after all these years. Nice clouds gathering.

Superbly dramatic clouds, and lovely texture in the stone. Wonderful!

Nice shot, have passed this hill hundreds of times, but never had the time or energy to get this close. I might now though...

Always appreciate your historical remarks :-) Fabulous storm clouds to set the mood.Cool how the baby rock wall can almost visually fit into the hole of mama castle wall. The sliver of green makes a perfect image foundation for the enormous weigth and prescence of the castle remnants.Excellent!

Not much of a castle there.
Anything 3000 years old is pretty damn impressive.

Amazing to think how much wall has been robbed out to make field boundaries and cottages all over the place...
