Snowy Owl Spirit Portraits

These Snowy Owl portraits began in the winter months of 2006, in the wild natural setting, and golden light of Delta's marshes in British Columbia, Canada. This gallery features an intimate portrait tribute to the spirit, character, and expressive beauty of Snowy Owls. Males feathers turn whiter as they age, while females keep their barred back and wing feathers throughout their lives.The primary equipment used in 2006: Canon 1DmkII, with 500 f/4 lens w/wo 1.4 tele converter. Snowy owls returned to the Delta marshes in 2011, and 2013 allowing new expressions with an 800.0mm lens in combination with the Canon 1DMkIV. wonderful gallery of intimate bird portraits. They seem quite relaxed about your presence. One bird is much more heavily barred than the other - is this a difference between male and female?

These pictures are inspirational. I love seeing the different qualities of character come out in the owls movements. OF course the great camera helps with the detail and provides the feeling that you are right there with the owl/s. Thanks for taking the time to post these on the web. My two young boys were oohing and ahhing!

A majestic bird, in an inspiring setting, filmed by a gifted artist. There, I think that

This snowy owl series, and your eagle series, are some of the most consistently beautiful photographic celebrations of wildlife that I have seen. There are four qualities I especially respond to :
1) the care and attention you have given to the owls in relation to their natural surroundings.
2) the timing of the shots, resulting in incredible attitudes, often funny and moving at the same time.
3) the soft light and the warm mellow, golden tones - your fine painters' eye for color and tonality.
4) the incredible feather detail of these true birds of prey, who at the same time look like soft, expressive snowballs of white feathers.
