Thanks a lot John, its very true that Arran's mountains are bypassed by many of the munro-baggers, more fool them! I must say I have not yet considered the threat of being chased off a mountain by a swarm of wasps- I'll bet you don't forget that climb in a hurry!
For outdoors photography where ISO-related artifacts are less of a deal, you really cannot fail to produce great images with any of the current crop of DSLRs, even down to the cheap end ones from Canon, Nikon and the like. Just make sure to spend a little more on a lens than the kit-lens that is provided with the camera. All the best, Steven

I spent last weekend at Catacol, and was amused and interested to see that we have many pictures of the same subjects but interpreted differently. You've got some great images here. I took over 300 pictures in 2 days so am still processing them but some are at http://www.pbase.com/andymacd/arran__scotland if you're interested.

These really are excellent photos, well done. I do a lot of photostitching but still haven't produced anything of the quality of yours. I go to Arran for a week's walking every September and am just back so I recognise each one immediately. Last year took my paraglider for a new angle but the weather wasn't quite co-operative enough.

I am doing a presentation for my college project on Arran and although I've never been there you're photos make me want to visit. Would you mind if I used a couple of you pictures in my presentation?

All the best mate. I come from Arran (Pirnmill)and love your site. Got back with my son Glen 4 weeks ago who is now 33 years old. I had not been to Britain for 10 years and before that 28 years. The first time back to Arran I found that all my school mates and their families were well and were so welcoming. This time it was great and my old friends are still grand and in good health as is their families. Anyone who comes to Canberra is equally welcome. Erwin Monahan and family.

Your photos are beautiful. We based ourselves in Lochranza last year for a week, put the backpacks on & explored the isle on foot. It's the only way to really enjoy the Glens to the north, however a pony trek was great fun. Those ponies really are the ultimate off-road vehicle! You can also get the Isle of Arran single malt "non-chill filtered." It retains it's natural fatty acids as God intended it, beautiful.
