There are 283 Munros - Scottish mountains over 3000 feet. Climbing all of them, or Munro-Bagging as it's usually called, is a very popular pursuit amongst the climbing and hillwalking fraternity. Despite their modest height, walking and climbing in the Scottish mountains may be made treacherous by their latitude and exposure to Atlantic weather systems. Even in summer, conditions can be atrocious; thick fog, strong winds, driving rain and freezing summit temperatures are commonplace. Winter ascents of certain Munros are widely accepted to provide among the most challenging ice climbs in Europe. Most would agree that this ever-changing weather provides much of the lure, and the rewards are some exquisite moments of light.

Absolutely superb gallery. We are lucky you are carrying your camera up there and stop to shoot in all of the conditions shown here. Thanks for sharing! V
Steve, these photos are amazing and inspiring! I found them after searching for example photos for the Sigma 15-30 (which I just bought). I'm thrilled to see what the lens can do in the hands of a skilled photographer. I'm amazed that you're able to get such perfect, clean panos from such a wide lens! Very impressive work. V.

fabulous pictures! I laughed when I saw the Alligin horns. ...one of the first munros I had climbed, and I remember looking at them and thinking 'no way' I can't go there!
years later they still look impressive but I'd love to go back.
Fantastic, so dramatic. I am a hill walker and have spent a little time walking one or two of the highest Munros. You have caught there splendour, gentleness, serenity yet through this there danger. Thanks. Makes me want to go there right now. V.
I am not a hillwalker but have taken an exhibited widely photographs and now paintings of Scotland and its hills, buildings and landscape for the last 25 years or so. Pictures by hillwalkers from tops of mountains that are supposed to impart what they felt at the time usually don't succeed and leave me unimpressed. Your pictures are very impressive, evoke feeling and understand light and its effect most beautifully. Sarah Moon once said something approximately like "everybody is capable of at least one great picture but very few can repeat this over and over. These people are true professionals" Steven you are a pro -

Tis your mission eventually to "do them all", then you will "know" the truth of what the Munros mean to you.

I have only just caught up with you PBASE gallery after admiring your images in Ephotozine for some time. There are many superb panoramics here - ample inspiration for me to get North of the border again and sample some of this myself in person.
I never met a Munro bagger...but when I see your photos...I don't believe they are mad, that is once they told me about the Munro's baggers ;)
Scotland is for me high on the list of the places I'll visit once and your photo's Steven make that feeling stronger...thanks!!!

very nice have done most of them brings back happy memories
This is a fantastic collection. As a Scottish exile living in China it brings back many fond memories of being on the hill. I've only done around 140, but my bother Stuart Benn has done them all twicwe, plus the tops and Grahams, my mum finished them when she was 69 years of age!!. We had fun getting her up the In Pin!!!!
The photographer's eye and vision, perfect technique, Scottish mountains and light - all combined in this superb gallery, worth more than just one casual glance.

A wonderful gallery for a currently expat Scottish mountaineer. The light is real, the viewpoints are excellent. The photographs convey the magical realism of Scotland at its best, I'm going home.

Wonderful panoramas, every one a masterpiece! I have never before seen this place depicted so well.
Thanks for the great images! You have made my decision of not taking my Hassel to Scotland much easier ;) Why should I if such pictures are already on the net :)
Best,

Spectacular gallery of excellent landscapes. I'm planning to visit Scotland this summer but no plan to the highlands yet. Your gallery makes me think really hard about it. Thanks, Steven.

Some great pictures. Hope you get a chance to visit my own Munro site which has numerous photos also, though not nearly as professional looking as yours (it's at http://www.3000ft.com)

Loved the gallery - tremendous clarity and detail. I've linked to the site from my hillwalking blog Bagger so others interested in the Scottish mountains can view.
wonderful. you capture the clarity of the light and colour very well in these and your
love for the highlands is apparent in every image. Gets my vote, enjoyed browsing through here immensely.
I know how difficult it is to trek, and keep the creative eye at the same time. You have to make the most of each moment, and keep your fellow travellers sweet ;-). This is where your natural sense of compostion and light comes un handy. Great gallery, and thanks for showing us how it can be done.
Only a short notice for other visitors:you must open the files to see the beauty of these Scotish landscapes. The small thumbnails doesn`t really indicate it.
