Hitchhiking Iceland

Hitchhiking in Iceland has been one of the things I have wanted to do since I got here. So, one weekend I was just kind of looking over my Lonely Planet guidebook trying to figure out where, and was getting ready to leave, when Liz said that she would like to come also. So, away we went!

Be sure to vote on this gallery, or any of the pictures if you like them!!
Liz and I just before hopping the city bus to take us to the edge of town.
I have about everything you could imagine in my pack in case things go wrong.

Liz seems a little disappointed that someone actually stopped to pick us up.
We weren´t even walking on the road for 5 minutes when this first car stopped.

I´m not sure if she was happy to have a picture taken, or that we weren´t afraid to talk to her.

In case you can´t tell, the girl with the construction worker pants likes to get noticed.

These two were great fun to talk with, and I´m glad they gave us a ride.

One thing that we learned quickly, is that a dirt road usually does not indicate a main road.

I think this sign means you are no longer in the city.
Liz was a little more doubtful.

This is me with Thórgunnur.
She is a very nice lady who demanded that Liz and I come in from the cold and have some tea.
The cookies were great, too!

The campground was closed, but luckily this community cooking shack was open, so we put my tent in there.

This is a prime example of why it is that in Iceland you can go out drinking at a bar and not get home till sunrise.

This is a show of maturity, and one that I look forward to doing myself.
She was having her 35th birthday, and got called out to the dance floor to slam this drink.
Of course standing on one of the stools helps to make sure that people see you.
