While the main focus for the evening was to say "thank you" to those who volunteered their time to run the events and administration of the Society's County Chapter, we were presented with a short lecture on "Emergency Preparedness for the Business." Bergen County Sergeant Barry Leventhal and Police Officer Gidget Petry, both from the County Office of Emergency Management, showed images of natural, terrorist, and technological disasters occurring over the last several years, expounding on efforts the government have made to prepare for future events; and turning, then, to the audience, they offered suggestions and OEM phone numbers so that we can "get involved" on the safety/prevention front. We also had the pleasure of having James R. Blake, CPA, the outgoing 2007/2008 NJSCPA President, come up to our event all the way from Wildwood, Cape May County, New Jersey's southernmost county to show support for our own Robert Traphagen (Bergen Chapter), the President-elect for the 2008/2009 year. Bergen County Executive Dennis McNerney acknowledged the outgoing and incoming chapter officers and directors. Scholarship awards were presented to college students working towards certification in accounting based on essays, work experience in accounting, grade point average, and professorial recommendations.
