Of all the photographs I have made over the years,
this one has moved me the most recently. I guess a little explanation
is warranted...
I found a few of these 110 mm slides (110 mm WHAT??)
on the floor of an abandoned hotel room I was shooting
the other day. They had been there a very long time and
were long forgotten. I was drawn to them because I had never
seen 110mm slides ever before, but it was the images on them
that were compelling. Not that they were photographs of anything
very interesting, a farm house, barn, an old combine, and then this one of "Stan".
I was moved by the untold and forgotten stories the images in the
slides captured. I have no idea who "Stan" is, but as he stood there
proudly that day for this photo, I'm curious to know, what kind
of a man he was, how he lived his life, who he influenced, or how his
actions affected any one else gone or still on this earth today, is he
remembered if he has passed on...
His photograph conjures up so many questions that will never be answered.
It's this kind of forgotten history that reminds me that my life on this earth
is, in essence pretty insignificant in the bigger picture (pun intended).
