a very interesting back yard set-up. Quite the elaborate system, did it spring up fully formed, or were sidings and loops added as the time went on? Your wife was probably correct - there was a symbiotic relationship between the fence and the railway - neither could survive without the other, and both survived for many years together. Was there an annual spring cleaning and de-rusting of the rails, repainting of the stations, etc?
