THEKLA LARK - GALERIDA THEKLAE - COCHEVIS DE THEKLA

Thekla Lark frequents various types of habitats such as slopes with some vegetation, arid plains, plantations and bushy areas with scattered trees.
It prefers wilder environment and deserts than Crested lark (Galerida cristata).
Thekla Lark is slightly smaller, and has shorter bill. The underparts are heavily streaked, with neat black streaks. Back is usually darker with blackish-brown streaks.
In addition, Thekla Lark has fanned crest, whereas Crested lark has pointed crest, with the first feathers longer than the others.
It is really difficult to identify them in wild, and it is necessary to see the birds at close quarters.
This species is sedentary in Spain and North Africa.
