This beautiful owl is found in Central America and in the nort-eastern half part of South America.
Relatively large with about 50 cm and more than 1000 grams for the nominate species, this nocturnal owl hunts from perch, taking preys from lizards, bats and frogs, to birds such as doves, jays or oropendolas, and also large insects.
